The transfer window is closed! January often doesn’t know the biggest of transfers, but sometimes a raw diamond will be found, such as Luis Suarez in 2011. In this blog, we’ll list five transfers that happened this current transfer window, that we predict to be great (loan) signings.
- Kulusevski to Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur have had many problems over the past years, but a striker wasn’t one of them. However, this changed with Harry Kane’s drop in form over the past year. Spurs were seriously struggling to score a goal, as Son, Lucas and Bergwijn are all players that aren’t exactly known for their goals. Now, with Kulusevski, Tottenham have bought a talented striker that will be hungry to show his talent. In the Serie A, Kulusevski has shown what he’s capable of. He’ll need to adjust his game a little bit, but once he gets going, Kulusevski will show to be a great signing for Tottenham Hotspur.
- Coutinho to Aston Villa (Loan)
Although this is just a loan transfer, we could see Coutinho absolutely bringing new life into his career at Aston Villa. He’ll got to play under Steven Gerrard in a young, attractive side that has nothing to lose. Aston Villa have proven to be able to play good football and give any team in the Premier League a hard time. The expectations for both Aston Villa and Coutinho won’t be sky high: exactly what’s needed to fulfill this transfer.
- Van de Beek to Everton (Loan)
Another loan transfer, as Donny van de Beek will finish his season at Everton. Everton has seriously been struggling, but with the likes of van de Beek arriving at the club, we could see them climbing the league table again. Van de Beek hasn’t been able to show what he’s capable of at Manchester United, but we know from his time at Ajax that he has some serious goals in his locker. We think he’ll unlock these goals at Everton, making this a very successful loan transfer.
- Eriksen to Brentford
A highly debated player this transfer window was Christian Eriksen, the player who suffered a heart injury at the World Cup 2020. Since he has to play with a defibrillator, Eriksen can’t play in the Serie A anymore, as this isn’t allowed there. This means he couldn’t play for his club Inter anymore and had to find a new club. Now, Eriksen seems to have everything back on track and in Brentford he’s found the perfect side to show what he’s capable of still. Just as Coutinho at Aston Villa, Eriksen will play in a side with low expectations, giving him the absolute freedom to recover to the level he once used to play at.
- Alvarez to Manchester City
Not every transfer has to be one that immediately shows his quality: Manchester City proves just this with their most recent signing: Julian Alvarez from River Plate. Alvarez is a talented striker that has already proven his talent in the Argentinian Primera Division, and will be hungry to show this talent in the Premier League too. Manchester City have struggled in their striker department ever since Aguero left, which means this transfer could be a perfect fit from both sides. We can see Alvarez becoming the new Aguero!
